The Caithness Broch Project Visit WHS

We were visited this week by members of the Caithness Broch Project. The visit was organised by the Social Subjects Faculty. Mrs Laybourne, Faculty Head, tells us more:

After ferry delays and weather interruptions, the Social Subjects faculty finally welcomed the Caithness Broch Project to work with their S1 classes this week.

Pupils have studied Caithness Brochs and evidence from Skara Brae, so they were ready to complete some hands on activities about archaeology.

Pupils were given the opportunity to handle real artefacts, excavated from Caithness broch sites and well as time to study aerial photographs and geophysical maps of our local area.

Finally pupils were challenged to design their own Brochs with prizes for the most imaginative creations. We were very impressed with some of their ideas!

The faculty hope to work with the CBP later in the year with the new S1 cohort.
