We were delighted to welcome members of Inverness Amateur Boxing Club to our school on Thursday last week to demonstrate their training and sparring techniques. The visit was the idea of local amateur boxing champion, and ex Wick High School pupil, Liall Mackenzie who hopes to use his experience and enthusiasm to create his own club in Wick.

Liall invited his coach Laurie Redfearn and junior members of the club to come to the school to demonstrate the sport. The boys, who all attend schools in the Inverness area, showed the assembled crowd of around forty WHS pupils the training techniques that they employ in their club and also allowed our pupils to take part in some pad work as well as circuit training.

All the pupils who participated in the event enjoyed the valuable insight that they were given in to the sport and we thank Liall, Laurie and his club for the time taken to visit us.It is hoped that Laurie and members of the club will visit again soon and that eventually Liall will be able to establish a club to serve the local area.
