Riding For The Disabled Association – News and Photos
The summer term not only brings the hope of warmer weather and sunshine but also the annual block of RDA lessons in the indoor riding school in Halkirk. An army of volunteers appear each week to help lead the horses and walk beside some pupils to ensure they can participate fully in the lesson.
This year the pupils were involved in completing a range of activities including riding proficiency tests and a countryside challenge. All pupils enjoyed participating in the activities and did so with their usual enthusiasm.
The summer show was held on Wednesday 24th June. Parents, teachers and family friends were invited to attend a display of the pupils completing the countryside challenge. The weather held and the pupils were able to complete the challenge outdoors. There were many obstacles to negotiate including a duck pond, collecting eggs from one person and putting them into a basket, posting a letter, following traffic signs and many other obstacles. Once they had completed the challenge a presentation of trophies was made with each pupil receiving a trophy, rosette and certificate for their different achievements.
A BBQ was provided for the pupils, their parents, staff and volunteers after their fantastic display of riding skills. It was the perfect end to the highlight of the year!
Thanks to Mrs Hendry, Pupil Support Department, for the report.
