If you’re a football fan you’ll know that one of the most decorated managers in football history, Pep Guardiola, recently left Manchester City, the club where he has enjoyed a decade of unprecedented success. To witness his last game in charge of City at their home ground, The Etihad Stadium, was one of the hottest tickets in world football and some of our pupils were lucky enough to be there in the crowd thanks to a superb trip organised by Mr Harcus, PE Dept and Guidance teacher Mr Mackintosh. The group were also joined by Thurso High School pupils as players from the Caithness United under 14s who were also offered the opportunity to go.

The group took the long journey to Manchester by coach the night before the game and enjoyed a guided tour around the home stadium before kick off. The game itself was a tight affair with the visitors, Aston Villa, winning the game 2-1.

Caithness United under 14s captain and Wick High School pupil, Olly Forbes, told us more about the trip from his persepctive:

I can confidently say that I thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip off with the school. There was a great balance between restrictions and getting to have a bit of fun. Being able to stay in a room with one of your mates is great as it lets you experience a bit of maturity due to having the responsibility of keeping things tidy. 

The activities outside the football were very fun and enjoyable. The bowling was great as you had time to play 1-2 rounds with your friends and have time left over for the arcade that was in the same district. We also got some time in the Trafford centre which was very cool, unique and interesting but also affordable. 

The actual game was incredible, the atmosphere was superb and I have never experienced anything like it, for the teachers to get hold of tickets for such a special, memorable game was very good and all the kids appreciated all the hard work put into organising the trip.
