The Wick High Motorcycle Club, which recently featured in the national motoring press, visited the Knockhill Racing Circuit to watch the British Superbike Championship. They were able to watch the racing from the podium balcony, meet the riders and speak to the mechanics. Pupils who were on the trip said that speaking to the mechanics gave them a look into the industry and they were provided with different ways they could get into the job. Murray Harrold, a pupil from S2, said his favourite part of the trip was watching the racing from the VIP hut.

The after school club raised £1,100 to help them go on the trip by selling lucky squares and meeting in Thrumster to have a motorbike run. They were able to raise enough money to cover the cost of the whole trip. 12 pupils ranging from 1st-6th year accompanied club leader Mr Mackay on the trip. Mr Mackay said one of his highlights was when British Superbike Champion Neil Mackenzie gave Murray Harrold his autograph. The pupils were lucky enough to ask him questions and get a photo with him. Callum Mackenzie said ‘I’d go again tomorrow’ along with saying his favourite part was meeting everyone there as they were ‘inviting and welcoming.’ Another pupil who was on the trip, Rory Nicolson from S2 said he feels like he gained knowledge from the trip about how different conditions can affect the racer. He encourages all new first years to come along to the club.

Moving forward Mr Mackay hopes to have a trip similar to this one once a year, as it was enjoyed throughout the club and gave many pupils a great experience.
