The Caithness Motorcycle community congregated in Thrumster at the weekend to raise funds for Wick High School Motorcycle Club and their upcoming trip to watch the British Superbike Championship at Knockhill. A group of nearly fifty bikers assembled at local fabricator Robbie Anderson’s Wickcraft business premises at Thrumster Garage for a planned ride around the top of the county, with the fantastic amount of £1100 being raised. 

The route took in stops at Lybster, Thurso Harbour and John o’Groats with the weather providing the only challenge during a fantastic day. Homemade soup, sandwiches and cakes were provided on the bikers return by Audrey Anderson, Jodie Anderson and Adrienne Foster with Tesco Wick providing a generous donation of tea, coffee and bread.  

The prize for best bike on the day went to Brandon Carter and his Aprilia RS 125. The whole group were filled with nostalgia for their own time spent on small capacity two strokes, and it was fantastic to see the next generation of riders coming through.  

The money raised will go directly to Wick High Motorcycle Club, which was founded two years ago by Ewan Mackay, one of the school’s technical teachers. The club has gone from strength to strength with up to 20 pupils attending after-school sessions on a Wednesday. They get the opportunity to work on a range of motorcycle projects with jobs from full engine rebuilds to basic servicing being carried out. Their most recent success was rebuilding a Suzuki TS 250 owned by the school janitor Sandy Mackay.
