Time For Inclusive Education Visit Wick High School

Last week, Wick High were delighted to welcome Liam and Jordan from the Scottish charity Time for Inclusive Education (TIE). TIE’s main aim is to eradicate homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools through LGBT+ inclusion and LGBT+ inclusive education.
Assemblies to each year group focused on the power of language and the importance of talking to someone if you find yourself upset, anxious, lost or confused.
An S2 pupil commented: “It was really enlightening to learn how much different words can affect different people. I will now be more thoughtful about the language I use.” Another S2 pupil said: “I’m happy to be a proud member of Wick High School” and an S6 pupil reported: “It opened my eyes to what some people have to deal with on a daily basis.”
TIE also ran a training session with staff from WHS and other local schools and organisations. It is hoped that future collaborations will involve the power of language through creative writing and tackling stereotypes and bullying at a primary school level.
