Unique Talents of WHS Pupils Shine Again

Further to Wick High School’s business card competition for Far North Aviation, Senior and S3 pupils were recently involved in a second project to redesign a logo and business card for High Street gift shop, B’Unique. This allowed pupils to develop their design and graphics skills, and has been a great opportunity for all pupils involved to help further develop their skills in using desktop publishing software through working on a real life design brief provided by a local business.

Chloe Dunnet and Erin Mackenzie, both S6, were given the opportunity to produce a new logo for the store. Lauren McNeill (owner of B’Unique) gave the girls a design brief stating that they had to stick to a specific colour scheme and use the motif from her current logo. The girls worked on creating a range of diverse ideas for Lauren to choose from. This was a great project for the girls to get involved in as they have both applied for Product Design courses at universities, so the project served as a creative piece of work to go into their portfolios. Pictured below are Chloe Dunnet and Erin Mackenzie with their winning logo design.

Using the new B’Unique logo, S3 pupils were tasked with designing a new business card to include the new logo. Lauren enjoyed looking at all of the design entries, and has selected the design entry that was an amalgamation of work from Eimear Henderson and Chloe-Ann Timbrell, both S3. Also pictured below are Eimear Henderson and Chloe-Ann Timbrell handing over their winning design to Lauren McNeill.

Lauren commented, “The girls did a fab job designing a logo and business card for the shop. I was very impressed and found it hard to choose my favourite designs.”

Mr Ross, Miss Anderson and Mr Gentry (WHS technical teachers) have all enjoyed working on this project with the pupils and it has allowed them to develop links with the local community and business partners. Miss Anderson commented, “We will definitely continue to run similar projects like this with pupils in the future as it really engages them working on a live design brief for a local business, and the pupils enjoy the competitive aspect.”
