Our S1-3 rugby players were recently involved in matches against their Thurso counterparts. Mr Sutherland who coaches the teams tells us more about the matches…

Rugby – Thurso High v Wick High 31^st May 2018

S1/S2s Match

From the start of this match Thurso High looked highly organised and moved the ball well when in possession. Wick High were on the back foot for most of the 1^st half but due to some excellent tackling managed to keep the scoreline down going into the 2^nd half. Wick High never gave up belief that they could win this match and in the 2^nd half started to get into the game with Zak Barrett scoring some exceptional tries and some fantastic team play from S1 players playing for Wick High for the first time. Other try scorers for Wick were Rory Sinclair and Derry Shearer. Drew Mathieson was on kicking duty and converted well. There was a great comeback from Wick High in the 2^nd half, but unfortunately too late. The score ending Thurso High 64 – Wick High 40. Well played Thurso High who put in a  great team performance.

S3 Match

Wick played well as a team from the start of the match, communicating and supporting each other well, making it only a matter of time before their first score. All players gave of their absolute best, but particular praise must go to Sinclair Bremner, Scott MacDonald and Duncan Mackay. A special mention must go to Mark Macadie who scored two tries in his first ever rugby match. Wick’s tackling was of the highest order and continually stopped Thurso from gaining any ground.  Scott MacDonald was kicking for Wick and converted six of Wick’s tries.  Try scorers for Wick were Sinclair Bremner, Mark Macadie, Duncan MacKay, Craig Gunn, Max Kennedy and Scott MacDonald. The Final Score being Thurso High 26 – Wick High 67. Wick High ran out deserved winners.
