Our annual prize giving ceremony took place at the start of last month. The ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the academic successes of our pupils; of which there were many in the past academic year.

This year was a special occasion as it marks the last ceremony in our current building; bringing the curtain down on over a century of such events. Our guest speaker was Mr Jim Steven, Director of Education for The Highland Council. Mr Steven, hailing from Thurso, was well placed to deliver advice to our young people on both their academics and their future career paths.

The ceremony culminated in the award of Proxime Accessit to the Dux (the pupil with the second  highest academic achievement across five Higher subjects in one year) and Dux of Wick High School (the pupil with the highest academic achievement across five Higher subjects in one year). This year the award of Proixime Accessit was given to Shona Tait while Dux of Wick High School is Caitlin Taylor. Congratulations to both.

We also recognised the achievements of the pupils who gained 5+ Highers at ‘A’ grade this year; namely Beth Higham, Andreas Ramsoy, Leanne Rosie, Shona Tait, Caitlyn Taylor and Beth Harper (not pictured below). Again, congratulations to them all on a considerable achievement.

Other notable successes include: Laura Henderson and Paul Sutherland who shared The David Lockie Memorial Prize (given to the best boy and girl in Technical who are going on to a career or further education in the subject); John Sutherland awarded The Kevin Costello Memorial Prize (for endeavour in Science) and Joni Baikie who was awarded the Ackergill Tower Trophy (for the best performance at Advanced Higher level).
