Local Charities Benefit From S6 Fund Raising

On Wednesday 27th April Wick High School’s S6 students, sporting their S6 leavers’ hoodies, met with the recipients of the charity funds which S6 had raised. This year the students’ chosen charities were the Seaview Residents Fund to support dementia care in the local community and Pebbles, supporting local youngster Pebbles Sawyer by raising funds for specialist equipment to allow her the opportunity of accessing education on an even level with her peers.
We are grateful to both charities for coming along and meeting the S6 students. The highlight of the visit was Pebbles, her energy, enthusiasm and drive were infectious and both students and staff were completely smitten by her smile.
The charities have kindly told us how these donations will be used. Seaview will be investing in 6 iPods which will have residents’ personal favourite songs saved in playlists for them to listen to at their leisure. Pebbles’ mother, Lana Sawyer, explained that this donation will allow the purchase of a specialised wheelchair by ZipZac. This specialised chair, sized for the specific age group of the user, will allow Pebbles to start nursery in August working at the same physical level as her peers. This will also allow her more flexibility in being as personally independent as possible as she enters education.
All at Wick High School wish both beneficiaries every success. As our S6 students prepare to go off on the next leg of their individual journey’s into work, training, further or higher education we say well done and good luck.
