Wick High School Tartan – Coming Soon!

To mark the historic move to our new building in October this year we have begun an exciting plan to design and manufacture a unique tartan for the school.

Mr Ross, Faculty Head of Art & Technical, is leading the project in the school along with Art teachers, Miss Hay and Mrs Lamont. To help them Mr Ross has enlisted Martin Gill who owns and runs the hugely successful local business Blackstairs HighlandwearMartin has vast experience in designing unique tartans and has very kindly agreed to help the school in this historic venture.

S3 Art students have been chosen as the year group to drive the project forward and they were treated to a workshop from Martin where they were talked through the process of designing and producing a tartan as well as having the chance to see samples of the finished product made in to kilts, bags, scarves and other fashion accessories.

The students were set a design brief at the workshop and now have a deadline to produce a presentation board of chosen colours which represent the school as well as initial and developed designs for their tartan. Once these have been submitted Martin hopes to have six design from which the school population will choose a final design to go to production.

We hope you agree that this is another unique and exciting opportunity for our school to mark what will be a very important year. More news of this and other commemorative events will follow.
