A belated report on our school’s fundraising efforts for Children In Need written by S6 pupil, Scott Mackenzie…
Wick High School has shown its generosity and school spirit again. Students, teachers, and staff came together for Children in Need fundraising this year. The school’s efforts to support the charity have been inspiring. Students across all year groups joined forces. They raised an impressive sum of £1000 for the cause.
The week started with a bake sale led by the S6 Charity Committee. There were lots of generous donations of baking from various teachers and S6 pupils. But the excitement didn’t stop there! A series of other fundraising activities were organized throughout the week. These included a Teachers and S6 vs pupils dodgeball match, which proved to be very popular. To close off an amazing week, there was a whole school ‘dress down’ day. It saw many different outfits being displayed. A huge round of applause went to Mrs Robertson, who came dressed in her Pudsey onesie. The Office Staff all came in wearing matching pyjamas. Everyone who participated was in the spirit on the day and everyone was all about supporting a great cause.

One of the Heads of the Charity Committee, Scott Mackenzie praised the efforts of everyone involved. He said, “I am incredibly proud. The entire school community has come together to raise money for Children in Need. Our students have shown their kindness and compassion to help children who are less fortunate.”
The money raised will support children across the UK affected by illness. It will also assist those facing poverty or disability. The funds will provide them with the resources and opportunities they need to live better lives.

Local businesses also showed their support by donating prizes for the raffles. The entire Wick community’s involvement has made the event even more special. This further proves that when people come together, they can make a big difference. The following companies donated to the raffle:
- B’Unique
- McAllan’s
- Tesco
- David Cass Plastering
- Driftwood
- Old Salt Store
- Fascination by Erin
- Caithness Candle Company
- North Aviation
- Abbeycrafts
- Wick Craft
- Sophie’s Tutoring
- Caithness Chocolate
- Sinclair Prints
- Timeless Beauty by Ashlyn

The week ended with the school’s charity committee expressing gratitude to everyone who participated. They reminded them of the impact their contributions would have. “Every penny raised will help children across the UK,” said the Teacher in Charge, Mrs Manson. “It feels really good to know that we’ve done something to make a difference. We also managed to bring back what is an amazing week.”
