National Swimming Success For WHS Pupils

The last week of the Easter holidays saw two of our pupils race to success at the Scottish National Age Group Championships (SNAGS).  Held at the Aberdeen Aquatics Centre from the 10th-14th April, SNAGS is a prestigious event that draws the best swimmers from amateur clubs across Scotland, England and as far afield as Dubai. Nebi Senguler (14) and Eva Robertson (15) – both swimmers with Wick Amateur Swimming Club (WASC) – took part and both were successful in securing personal bests over the course of the meet.

Eva made it to the finals in both 50M Breast Stroke and 100M Breast Stroke, achieving overall placings of 7th and 5th respectively, as well as a long course personal best time for her 100m breast stroke. Nebi secured long course personal bests in an amazing seven events, making it to the finals in four: 50M Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle.  To add to this success, he secured Bronze in both 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke.

This is an amazing achievement by our pupils and is testament to the dedication shown by both, as well as their coaches.  We are incredibly proud to have such fantastic role models in our school community. Additionally, both Eva and Nebi have recently been elected WASC Club Captains and this was their first event competing in their new roles. They, along with Rona Taylor one of our S3 pupils, recently supported younger swimmers – some of whom are WHS pupils or are pupils belonging to our feeder schools – at a meet in Inverness.
