On the 11th of June nine of our drama pupils from S3 travelled to Eden Court in Inverness as part of a project called Class Act where plays written by school pupils are performed by professional actors. Everyone was very excited about this trip taking place. Pupil Support Assistant, Chrissie Oag, who accompanied the pupils and organiser Miss Watt, said “Eden Court was THE place…we could not wait to be in the theatre atmosphere”. They travelled down on a minibus from the Pulteney Church driven by Faculty Head of Art and Tech, Mr Ross. This trip was funded and organised by Traverse Theatre – an organisation based in Edinburgh that produces and educates theatre production. Pupils from Nairn and Kingussie High Schools also attended this event.

In conversation with some of the pupils that attended, they all had extremely positive feedback from this trip. They all agreed that they enjoyed the trip, thought it was beneficial to their education and would love to go again. Some useful things they learned were staging, what happens backstage during plays, how long things take to organise for shows, how creative everyone is and how good at writing everyone is. One pupil mentioned, “It was fantastic to see how shows operate and how staging works”. A shared highlight of the trip by pupils was watching the plays created by themselves and others.

Pupils and staff who were on this trip both agree that it was very helpful for improving pupils’ skills and more of these in the future would be a great asset to their education. Staff on this trip were thoroughly impressed with the pupils, from good behaviour on the trip to showing and using their creative skills, and to having great theatre etiquette. Their Drama teacher, Ms Watt, is extremely proud of them all for putting their learning into action. After the trip staff noticed how delighted pupils were from this trip and spoke very highly of the experience.
