Wick High School – SQA Statement

Following the announcement from the SQA on 24th March, WHS is working hard to ensure that fair and appropriate estimates are being compiled for our pupils.

The SQA has stated that “given the current situation, and with the support of the education system, to ensure that learners’ hard work is rightly and fairly recognised and allows them to proceed to further learning or work”

“We appreciate that some learners may have already completed their coursework for later pick up National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses. This work can still be used as part of the suite of evidence for teachers and lecturers to draw on as they consider estimated grades”

We have been advised by the SQA that “We will provide further details on the estimation of grades, that we will need from teachers and lecturers to inform certification, and fuller details of our approach to certification, as soon as possible”

As we wait for further clarification on how information should be supplied to the SQA and how it will be used, it would not be appropriate to advise pupils of their estimate grades. Pupils should already be aware of their own progress, through our three tracking points across the year. Pupils can also consider feedback from learning conversations they have had with their teachers about their hard work and most recent progress.

We ask that if able to do so, pupils continue to engage with their teachers online and submit work that may have been assigned to them through their Google Classroom.

We hope you are all doing well. Staying home, staying safe and taking care of each other.
