Our Apps For Good finalists have arrived safely in London!

The students are accompanied by Mr Donald and Miss Davis as Mr Aitken, who has guided the teams through to the final, is currently in Spain with some of our senior pupils. He did take the time out from his busy schedule to write a short piece about the competiton and the prize awaiting the winners:

“Earlier today, three teams left Wick for London to take part in the UK final of the Apps for Good competition. On Thursday morning they will be working with city tech companies to work on their pitch for the judges later that day. In the afternoon they’ll make their way to the Barbican centre where they’ll meet all the other teams and pitch to an impressive list of experts in the tech industry, including:

  • Margaret Rice-Jones, the Chairman of SkyScanner
  • Jemima Kiss, Head of Technology at the Guardian
  • Kip Meek, Senior Advisor at EE,
  • plus many more

There are three teams in each category and we have Pass it On in the Barclaycard Saving and Spending category; and One Click Politics and Finding Spoons in the Thomson Reuters Information category. Find out about all the teams here: http://www.appsforgood.org/public/awards/2015/finalists

Please remember that you can still vote for your favourite (Wick) team here:

This is our third consecutive year that we’ve had teams from Wick High in the UK finals. This year over 700 teams entered the competition and 18 reached the final. Should any of our teams win their category or the People’s Choice award they’ll attend a session with their app development team on the Friday to kick start the process of turning their great idea into a great product that’ll be available on the iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store.

I’m personally proud of every team that took part this year and would like to wish everyone good luck for tomorrow. I wish I could have been there with you.”
